Dr. Stephan Teglund, one of the society’s earliest members. Stephan passed away at the age of 60 after a short time illness.

Stephan was a highly respected scientist whose career spanned over three decades and whose contributions to the field of transgenic research have left a lasting legacy. He spent most of his career at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, where he served in multiple pivotal roles over 25 years and since 2012 as Associate Professor and Manager of the Karolinska Center for Transgene Technology (KCTT)

Stephan began his academic journey at Umeå University, where he completed his Ph.D. in 1994. His scientific pursuits also led him to the United States, where he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. James N. Ihle at the Department of Biochemistry, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Stephan was also involved in organizing the TT Meetings 2 and 3 at the KI in Stockholm and participated in several other TT Meetings.

We will not only remember his unwavering commitment to the transgenic research community and the students and researchers at KI, but also because of his kindness, generosity, and warmth. We are not only losing a brilliant scientist and colleague, but also a good friend.

Furthermore, we extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Teglund’s family, friends, and colleagues. His presence will be greatly missed.
