Board of Directors: Board Member (elected in 2014, [TT2014-TT2017, TT2017-TT2020])
Martina Crispo is Head of the Transgenic and Experimental Animal Unit of the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo since 2005. Doctor in Veterinary Medicine, she was trained in mammalian embryology and related techniques (in vitro fertilization, embryo transfer, cloning, gene edition) in the Laboratory of Biotechnology of Reproduction at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of Uruguay, with intensive internships in Japan and France. She received her PhD degree in Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine of Uruguay in 2013, generating reporter transgenic mice models. Her Unit developed the first transgenic mice in Uruguay and the first transgenic sheep in Latin America, and is nowadays a technological platform of reference for the region. Since the advent of gene editing tools, the ease and efficiency of these molecular scissors opened the doors to develop several interesting models. She is generating gene edited animal models using CRISPR/Cas9 since 2014, mainly in mice and large animals. Her Unit produces animal models for their own research and on demand, collaborating with more than 15 national and regional groups in that sense. She is a Council member of the International Society for Transgenic Technologies (ISTT) and the Uruguay Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences (AUCyTAL).
